Alumna The Aluminum Horned Unicorn

Alumna’s Story

Alumna The Aluminum-Horned Unicorn From The Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically By The Metal Horn Unicorns Book

Alumna, the rose-red aluminum horned unicorn is a member of the Metal Horn Unicorn tribe from Unimaise. She is the most learned of all the metal-horned unicorns. She constantly studies historical documents and she has made contact with an entity known as Numen, the Moon-Star Spirit, through a crystal ball. This communication with the Numen has given her the reputation of oracle of the tribe. She misses most of what he tries to relay to her because of what seems to be a bad connection with a lot of static. One thing she learns is that she is a member of the Navigator Herd of the Metal Horned Unicorn Tribe from Unimaise. The herd crest symbol for the navigator herd is a large crystal ball mounted on an aluminum tripod made of three unicorns rearing up on their hind legs.

All navigator unicorn horns are aluminum. Alumna’s is ruby encrusted. In the past, navigators communicated with the Numen through crystal orbs in order to determine the best courses for the jump ships. Alumna feels it is her duty to reveal the Numen’s words to the other unicorns so she has let them know that the Metal Horn Unicorns traveled across interstellar space from Unimaise to MarBryn in a jump ship on a mission of magical outreach. Due to unforeseen complications with the jump drive, they have been stranded in their invisible space ship, the Halstable, for over a century. The cloaking device of the Halstable has kept the unicorns who stay inside, or very near, safe from predators for many years. Those who venture too far only have the protection of their metal horn magic and that does not always keep them from harm.

Alumna has never been to Unimaise. None of the surviving unicorns have been but the Moon-Star Spirit has told her it is the only truly safe place for unicorns and that his driving mission is to get them back to their home planet. All of the unicorns in the Halstable were born in MarBryn after the jump ship was stranded there. MarBryn was once a pleasant place to call home but no longer. Many unicorns lost their lives in the Great Unicorn Massacre perpetrated by a powerful and evil sorcerer named Magh. The remaining metal horn unicorns feel an intense urgency to leave now that Magh is determined to kill every last unicorn in order to possess the magic of their horns for himself.

The Numen once told Alumna of a chosen one, a unicorn with a horn of osmium who would lead the Metal Horn Unicorns back to their homeland of Unimaise, ending their exile in MarBryn. Alumna shared this knowledge with the tribe but no osmium horned unicorn has yet been born. In fact, no more metal horned unicorns have been born in over twenty years. The only birth was  one with a hide covered horn and no magic. After that, no one believed the tribe could be saved from extinction except for Alumna.

As the years passed, she felt the weight of the prophecy growing heavier upon her shoulders. Alumna has a secret that she must keep from the other unicorns but she hopes that, one day, that secret will guide in the savior of the Metal Horn unicorns who will lead the tribe safely back to Unimaise.

Alumna’s secret is a burden that has weighed heavily upon her for years. Through the orb, Numen provided Alumna with information to create a map that would take the Metal Horn unicorns on a journey from the Halstable, all the way across MarBryn to Muzika Woods.

With her maps and innate navigational skills, Alumna will attempt to lead her tribe through treacherous terrain across MarBryn to the best of her abilities. She hopes that her experience in working with the magical orb and the Numen will prove invaluable during their journey and will allow them to safely pass by dangers that lurk in the shadows of much MarBryn’s lands. She will do her best to guide her tribe to Muzika Woods where the Numen has promised the chosen one will merge with the Moon-Star Spirit and lead them all to Unimaise.

Author’s Note:

Aluminum is mined from bauxite which is a reddish, sometimes even pinkish, color.  Alumna’s hide and mane are various shades of red and hot pink because of this.

The crystal ball or orb is really a crude radio, that was found by Alumna in one of the abandoned rooms of the Halstable. An entity known as the Ice Blink was able to find a way to route the messages from the Numen to it through crystals and copper metals deep under the mountain which binds him.

The Metal Horn Unicorns Make Science Magical

This periodic table reference page is brought to you by the Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically By The Metal Horn Unicorns book. They say, “No Metal – No Magic…and No Technology”.

Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically By The Metal Horn Unicorns. They say, "No Metal No Magic...and No Technology". Written by Sybrina Durant with Illustrations By Pumudi Gardiyawasam.

In this unique alphabet book, members of the Metal Horn Unicorn Tribe present 26 Magical Elements of the Periodic Table in alphabetical order.  Each member of the tribe has a metal horn and hooves. They also have magical powers based on the properties of their metals.

Alumna starts out the book by introducing the very necessary metal, aluminum, on her element page. Dr. Zinko rounds out the alphabet by presenting facts and other fun information about the metal, zinc, on his element page.  Other members of the Metal Horn Tribe from Unimaise, plus some of their magical elemental friends, will give some great insight into the properties of 23 additional pure metals from the periodic table.

There is one special unicorn in the book whose horn and hooves are an alloy created by combining copper and zinc. Cornum, the Brass Horned unicorn will reveal some interesting things about that metal.

While not all elements in the Periodic Table are represented by letters of the alphabet, some in this book, are introduced by alternate designations.  For instance, Tungsten is also known as Wolfram so “W” is used as the entry for that alphabetical letter in this book.  The letter “W” is also used as the atomic symbol for tungsten in all periodic tables.

Each element page in this book contains terms that might not be completely familiar.  Refer to the definitions in the back of the book to get a clear understanding of each meaning.  There is also a fun unicorn themed Periodic Table at the back of the book.

The Metal Horn unicorns from Unimaise and their other techno-magical unicorn friends are the perfect group to introduce you to metals and other elements in the Periodic Table.  Hopefully the Magical Elements of this periodic table book will spark an interest in the magical and real world properties of all the metals and other elements known today.  You may be surprised at how prominently they feature in our every day lives.
