Tween Unicorn Book Feature – The Oath: Mirabella and Connery: A YA unicorn fantasy by Susan Badaracco
Mirabella just doesn’t fit in.
She sneaks into cemeteries, reads books by hovering her hand over a page, and is the only one in the family with curls.
Unless her family isn’t who she thought they were.
When her little cousin disappears from a school trip, all questions about her past become insignificant. TJ’s life is in danger and it’s up to her to save him.
She has a new friend as an ally, and a unicorn as her champion, but she’s up against deadly beasts and not everyone will be left unscathed.
This book is the third in a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Deborah Halverson, author of “Cyber World, Meltdown, and Robotic World”, calls The Oath: Mirabella and Connery “such a pleasure to read”. She adds,”The plot choices are great, and the old characters stay charming even as new characters get introduced and fleshed out. Fun and satisfying!”

Chloe5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendous book! Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2018Verified Purchase
I love this book! If you love unicorns and adventure – or even just adventure – then this is a book that you will love, too! While The Oath: Mirabella and Connery is the third book in Susan Badaracco’s The Oath series, each one can easily be read as a stand-alone novel (however, having read the previous two books I will say that the knowledge of the characters gleaned from those books greatly enhances your enjoyment of the subsequent books).
Mirabella is determined to protect her cousin, TJ, after he has a terrifying encounter in the woods on a class field trip. Connery, a magnificent chestnut unicorn with a Scottish accent and a tragic past, is determined to protect Mirabella, having sworn an oath to defend her from harm. Together, Connery and Mirabella find themselves fighting against the unicorns’ terrifying enemies to keep the unicorns and humans safe.
This book is a fantastic read that grabs you from the first page and gallops to a strong and intriguing finish.

What an engaging and exciting read! Maribella can read any language and sees unicorns yet finds herself being pursued by another mythical creature. Connery, the warrior unicorn, magically appears at the most important times. It’s an exciting journey between this world and the mythical world of centaurs and unicorns. I don’t typically read this type of fantasy but I could not put it down! It includes the themes of family, belonging, courage, and loss. A bit scary but in a good way! Highly recommended for 8-12 year olds, specifically but all ages will enjoy it, A great family read aloud.
