Books are an impulse buy that I never regret, and this one is no exception. It must have been engineered to be irresistible to babies and toddlers. Reddish orange and forest greens create a high-contrast, complementary color palette in the lush images. The patterns that suggest visual texture are raised to offer tactile texture as well. Layered and die-cut pages reveal the layers of the forest as each page is turned. Each animal is embossed just enough to stand out, but the squirrels have a glossy veneer as well (as they are the focus of the story, after all). The story itself, about a squirrel searching for its family, is told in rhyme.
My 5-month-old and I read it with her 4- and 7-year-old brothers, and none of them could keep their hands off of it. The story is simple and sweet (and rhymes – we love rhymes), and in another board book, it would be foremost in my mind, but in this case, the imagery and design steal the show. This board book is a work of art.

My daughter started out with the “Into the Ocean” book and then she saw the “Into the Forest” listed on the back. I found it on Amazon for such a great price! These books are very well made and I love the layered effect of the pages. Great quality vibrant printing and texture on the pages as well. Would make a wonderful gift.
