Jane greets the Jane Austen Superfan Club, only to find that superfans can be super picky. Discouraged by their critiques, Jane wants different adventures. Even deadly, dangerous ones. And oh, yes! Romantic ones.

Her “publisher” had hoped to inspire Jane’s writing by showing her a book club devoted to her writing. But when she meets a tall, handsome superfan, Jane decides to chart her own course. She disappears with her new friend, and history may have to save itself …

Pasadena in 2024 could dash her author’s heart to pieces with its bland unknowability, its lack of weather, and its unfathomable ease and comforts. Where was the opportunity to struggle, to prevail in impossible circumstances? In other words, where were the stories?

And what of her those precious Dashwood sisters, if she did not return to her writing desk facing the window, overlooking the fields? Staying here, would her hand move as swiftly on a page? Jane had been happy in a way quite different from an exciting kiss and all that followed it. That happiness was a deep, settling plunge of heart as she imagined characters and scenes. It was a kind of gravity, as if to anchor her deep in the earth. Though perspiration beaded on her forehead, and her hand cramped, she found peace.

Marianne, feverish in her romantic walk in the rain on a hill, tumbling down injured, only to be lifted by the most handsome swain who had ever galloped on a horse. The shimmer of love swirled around them as he carried her back to her cottage. Her dark eyes glowing, as a man more handsome than any fairytale prince carried her.

Only for Marianne to later find herself dashed to pieces on society’s rules and her beau’s mercenary ambition.
