Teen, YA or Older Reader Unicorn Book Feature- Journey To Osm – The Blue Unicorn’s Tale: A Unicorn Fantasy Novel by Sybrina Durant

If you enjoyed reading The Hobbit, Alice In Wonderland or even Watership Downs, you might just love this purely fanciful anthropomorphic fantasy.

Journey To Osm – The Blue Unicorn’s Tale by Sybrina Durant is an enchanting escapade about a metal-horned tribe of space-faring unicorns stranded a universe away from their home world of Unimaise. It is full of magic and adventure with walloping dashes of pseudosciencey stuff sprinkled throughout. It also offers a thought-provoking look into love and war amongst the other denizens of MarBryn. . .including Magh, the sorcerer who wants to kill all unicorns.

Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale by Sybrina Durant, is a fun and exciting journey. The Metal-Horned Unicorns of MarBryn are desperate. They are near extinction with only one hope left, a prophecy of their savior. All hope is pinned on the birth of a new foal, but when he is born without magic, hope is lost. This is the weight that Blue is born into. He grows up bent on proving himself, avenging his parent’s deaths, and rescuing his tribe from the evil sorcerer Magh. This thrilling adventure is full of magic, war, love, and adventure. This overall story of this book was very unique. I thought that using unicorns as the central fantasy character already made it stand out in the genre, and the complex narrative with several characters, a magic system, and the intriguing plot really made it a refreshing YA fantasy read. The central themes were charming and interesting. I thought that getting to see a character without magic thrive in a world with it, rather than the common vice versa tale, was new and enticing. The story is charming and sweet as it focuses on a desire to help others, defending those that cannot defend themselves, and not letting others define your destiny. The characters are all fun and fully developed, and the plot had several twists that I did not see coming. Perhaps what I liked most about this book is just how imaginative it is. The world came to life on the page with the setting, a unique magic system, and kind characters. I found this book to be a lot of fun to read and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA fantasy, especially if you like unicorns.

Journey to Osm: The Blue Unicorn’s Tale is an exciting fantasy about a small herd of unicorns who are facing extinction due to the machinations of an evil Sorcerer. Magh is determined to steal the horns and hooves of all unicorns in order to possess their magic. Their only hope for survival lies in the prophesy that foretells of a blue unicorn who will rescue them. Unfortunately for the Metal-Horned Unicorns, the blue foal is born without a metal horn or metal hooves, which means he has no magic. Blue grows up as an outsider, scoffed by his fellow unicorns but determined to someday prove himself. When that time comes, he sets off on a journey of Tolkien proportions, full of challenges and dangers that must be met, or his herd will be doomed.

This story was full of unique magics and harrowing heroism that is sure to warm to the hearts of young readers and even those of us with a few more miles behind us. If you like YA fantasy, you will definitely enjoy Journey to Osm.
