Introducing – Emma Writes Tel Aviv
By Mazal Danto
Genre: Children’s Diary Books
A story about memory, identity, and the magic of telling your truth.
When Emma moves from sunny Tel Aviv to the towering streets of New York City, everything feels… different. The buildings are taller, the streets wider, the words unfamiliar- and her heart still lingers in the small city she used to call home.

Then one afternoon, she finds an old, mysterious notebook hidden beneath her bed. Inside, a single glowing sentence seems to speak directly to her: “Write your story, and the world will listen.”

So she begins to write.
About warm Friday afternoons, sand in her shoes, and Shabbat dinners filled with laughter, cousins, and way too many desserts.

And as the pages fill, something beautiful begins to happen- bridges form between her past and her present, between two places she now belongs to.

“Emma Writes Tel Aviv” is a gentle, beautifully illustrated picture book about voice, courage, and belonging.

It’s a love letter to Israel- and a celebration of every child’s power to share their story, build connection, and feel at home anywhere in the world.

I read this gentle, touching book about belonging, memories, and courage to my three boys. We were all completely drawn in. It’s an inspiring and moving story about identity, roots, and the power of writing to bring hearts together.
They listened quietly, asked thoughtful questions about Tel Aviv and what it’s like to move to a new place, and really connected to Emma’s feelings. What touched me most was seeing how this story inspired them to want to write about what they feel inside. I highly recommend it- especially for children who have gone through change or are growing up between cultures and to every parent looking for a way to connect their children to themselves through words.

My daughter, who is Israeli-American, asked to read this book again and again. She really connected with Emma- her feelings and her courage to start over. It opened up conversations between us about home, memories, and even inspired us to start writing our own stories together. A heartfelt, gentle, and wise book.
